Located in northeastern Arizona, Horseshoe Bend is located on the eastern side of the Grand Canyon with the Colorado River in full effect.
A dirty little secret about sunsets is that the sunset itself is often not that inspiring but there is a span of time, usually 9-22 minutes after sunset that the magic often happens – which is what happened here. The low hanging clouds almost instantly went from a muted blue to a violet that, honestly, this picture doesn’t even do justice. The funniest thing was seeing all the photographers who had packed it up for the day come sprinting back down the hill toward the cliff’s edge when they saw the sky change colors. It only lasted a few minutes though and then nightfall set in.
