The Children of Central City was an editorial series that focused on children who grew up in Central City – one of New Orleans’ most culturally significant neighborhoods, a nurturing home to second-lines and Mardi Gras Indians, and the epicenter of the city’s civil rights movement. But the 2,900-plus children and teens who call Central City home face rates of crime and poverty significantly higher than in other parts of the city.
As part of the project, the series needed to be widely-promoted to ensure maximum exposure. To that end, I created a multi-faceted campaign including print, online display, video and social collateral. The series was tremendously received by the community and the editorial team received multiple national awards for their work.
